One wonderful thing about macro photography is that you can find beautiful things pretty much anyway. When stuck indoors, simply grab a cup of coffee, place something interesting on your kitchen table and start shooting. I spent a wonderful hour shooting some small cactus plants a week ago while having conversations with family members around me. I’ll even include a cell-phone shot of dorky me as proof:
(Note the shorts and a cup of coffee on a day that would have required putting on a jacket and a pair of warm shoes before heading outdoors.)

The results from the hour spent turned out fairly well, so I thought I’d share them. I played around with back lighting (reflected natural light and artificial both), aperture/depth-of-field, … until I found compositions that I liked. A handy pair of fine-pointed tweezers helped me pull out the fuzz that had been embedded in the spins over the years.
